George Skinner Carr is a realist artist working mostly in oils, painting figurative pieces, still life and landscapes. A fairly successful sculptor for many years, he now concentrates on painting. Featured on this website, along with images of paintings, are photos of some of the sculpture he has created over the years. As a landscape painter George has been guided by the painter Walt Bartman, of the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, Maryland. He has also taken figure painting classes with Robert Liberace. Before becoming an independent artist he worked for sculptors Ray Kaskey and Frederick Hart, assisting them with their monumental sculpture commissions. George has a BA in English from Middlebury College and an MA in Fine Arts from SUNY Albany. He works from a home-based studio near Kensington, Maryland where he lives with his wife, dog, and cat.
